in a cmd window
DISKPART

then :
select vdisk file=
expand vdisk maximum=

EXIT

now the vhd has the new desired size.
you can use diskpart to increase the current partitions, or create new ones etc. Or you can use Disk management attach the vhd and manipulate partitions,

What I used to do is a bit different but similar.
To extend a WIndows XP system VHD I attach it as disk 2 to a Vista VM. The XP VHD is displayed as a new disk and I use Disk Management to extend the partition on that disk. No command line utility involved.

I had the same problem of having diskpart fail to upsize a resized virtual PC. After reading these posts, I tried the whole thing again. In the interim, I had configured the virtual PC to log into windows active directory. Now I have lost administrative privileges on the virtual pc, although I still have them on the host. Does anyone have any experience with solving this problem? I can't run diskpart without those privileges.

Thanks #7 by ken and the other FYI entries, this was a big help!!!
I used this to fix my system drive issue, didn't know about the pagefile issue because I try to keep it on a seperate drive (lucky me).
I even created step by step instructions for my team.

Really useful. Solved my problem too..
I would like to add one small thing. Before going to diskpart, check whether the new drive is showing up in My Computer. Else, right click My Computer > Manage > Disk Management. Right click the unnamed drive > Change drive letter and Path > Name the drive > Add > Set the drive letter. Then, continue with the diskpart activity.
