WWWinamp V4.2 Build 2991
10 March 2008We’ll call this the “foot in mouth” build when it comes to removing the “beta” tag, but live and learn!
Again, thanks to ‘dawolf’ for reporting several defects within WWWinamp that were included in the previous build (4990), but have been corrected. I suggest all users upgrade to this latest build to avoid any system performance issues
Changes in this version include:
- Fixed 100% CPU utilization issue in WinAmp Handle Update code
- Fixed issue when starting WWWinamp without an instance of WinAmp Running
- Minor Bug Fixes
I actually didn’t notice the 100% CPU bug when testing the previous version because the loop was in a single thread, and only my quad core rig it only showed up at 25% system utilization which didn’t strike me as odd for my system while developing. So my apologies for missing that!

Keep the updates coming!
Thanks to your latest improvements I was able to get an ajax/javascript powered proof-of-concept skin for wwwinamp working. Keep in mind that it’s a messy work-in-progress and tested mainly on Firefox, still missing a lot of functionality.
If you still want to try it, you can grab it here: http://www.dawolf.com/dl/askin.zip
Extract it into your WWWinamp\WebRoot directory and then point your browser to http://yourwwwinamp:yourport/askin/
For testing please log in to your WWWinamp as admin user.
Features:
- XHTML 1.0 Strict / fluid CSS layout
- Search with Ajax autocompletion
- Playlist editing without having to reload the page when moving or removing songs
- Volume control slider
- Collapsed directory listing (recommended minimum ResultsPerPage value = 200)
- visual indicator for Winamp playback status (playing = green, stopped = red)
Keep in mind it’s far from completed, however feedback is appreciated.
Eric: I couldn’t get the “startWinamp” command to launch Winamp as suggested in the sdk.txt. Should this command launch the winamp.exe in the host computer?

Wow!
Great progress with the skin! I love how you integrated volume control as well.
I’m going to add a new category to this blog called ‘WWWinamp Skins’ where we’ll list your skin along with the iPhone skin and any others that users make.
Heck, I might just go ahead and bundle yours as the default one
Giving credit where credit is due, of course.
Thanks again for making such a great skin! Keep up the great work yourself!
