About WWWinamp — An HTTP server that allows remote control of WinAmp

WWWinamp logo

WWWinamp is a web server which allows you to control a copy of WinAMP on the host computer through the web browser. This solution is perfect for people who prefer to use WinAMP on their Home Theater PC’s or for people who wish to have remote control of their instance of WinAMP from anywhere.

WWWinamp was originally developed by Nullsoft (2.5d, 09/04/01). Halo8 then picked up development (v2.7.8, 04/07/2004) and added some new features and much needed bug fixes. Halo8 has since stopped releasing updated version of WWWinamp but did maintain the history of GPL-ing the source code. I then picked up and continued development of this project in it’s existing C/Win32 API/WinSock form. After working with the source code for a few months, it became clear that updating the source code with new features would be more and more difficult as time went on. I’ve since decided to recode the entire application using the Microsoft .NET Framework and C#.

Over the last year WWWinamp has been ported to the Microsoft .NET Framework and recently has been built using version 3.5 of the Framework. It now also integrates a WCF Endpoint so people can write their own applications and interface with this new API. This allows applications such as remote ASP.NET pages to access WWWinamp and execute commands without having to use the Web Interface.

Please check back frequently as WWWinamp v4 is in full development and will be updated frequently.
